Synopsis
Caught in the shadow of her mother's unmet expectations and burdened by a crippling caffeine allergy, a timid woman with a sleeping problem embarks on a journey to save her family from the perils of a coffee-deprived planet in this comedy disaster film.
Sally Smith, a chronically sleepy woman tragically allergic to caffeine, relies on her coffee-obsessed sister Joyce to keep her awake as they bounce from one dead-end job to another—each dismissal thanks to Sally’s narcoleptic tendencies. If only she could tolerate coffee, she might join the rest of the world in staying conscious. Haunted by a childhood dominated by their coffee-crazed, narcissistic mother, Janis, Sally is convinced she can win her mother’s elusive love by becoming more like their older sister Tammy, the coffee mogul who fled home at 17 and never looked back.
After blowing up their final job at a doll factory (literally), Sally and Joyce are back to square one. Enter Janis, now on a coffee detox and eager to reconcile with her estranged daughters. Janis makes a rare phone call, inviting them to a family dinner, prompting Sally to concoct a wild lie to convince her sisters to join: their mother is on her deathbed. Sally must now corral her sisters for a last-chance reunion, so they set off for Janis’ home where she runs a small coffee shop.
But there’s a catch—the world is plunging into a coffee crisis. Coffee shops are shutting down, coffee junkies are losing their minds, and even their airplane is serving... decaf! Meanwhile, a coffee-less cruise ship—ironically named "Peace and Quiet Seas"— departs without its liquid gold.
As Sally’s web of lies unravels during the family's showdown, the "Peace and Quiet Seas" crashes ashore, releasing hordes of coffee-starved passengers who zero in on Janis' coffee shop. In this epic coffee-fueled disaster, Sally, the only one unaffected by the global coffee shortage, must step up to save her dysfunctional family - and the entire community - from an even more dysfunctional world.
Will she rise to the occasion, or will everyone drown in a sea of decaf?
